Maine Residency Requirements for Divorce
To apply for divorce in the state of Maine, the spouses have to make sure they meet the residency requirements.
In order for the Maine District Court to have jurisdiction over a divorce case, one of the following conditions must be satisfied:
The party seeking a divorce (the plaintiff) has been a resident of Maine for at least six months before filing.
The marriage occurred within the state, and either spouse is currently a resident of Maine.
The ground for divorce occurred while the spouses resided in Maine, and either spouse is currently a resident of Maine.
