In the state of Vermont, the filing requirements for divorce are as following:
At least one of the spouses must have been a resident of Vermont for at least six months before filing for divorce.
At least one of the spouses must have been a resident of Vermont for one year at the time of the final hearing.
Temporary absence from the state because of illness, employment, military service in the US armed forces, or any other legitimate cause shall not affect the timeline, provided that the person has retained residence in Vermont.
